PLOT

Haruhi Fujioka won a scholarship to attend Ouran Academy, a school reserved for the rich and prestigious. Despite what other students may think of her, Haruhi cares little for physical appearances or the fact that she is a commoner. Unfortunately for Haruhi, her high school days took a turn when she stumbled upon the Host Club, an elite club for the super rich and beautiful boys who use their specific traits and charms to entertain young ladies. Even worse was that Haruhi had accidentally broken an 8 million yen vase in the club. Unable to repay her debt with money, Haruhi found herself with no choice but to work for the Host Club, becoming a male host herself.

I watched this series a while ago so I’ve been dying to do a review on it! Once again, my favourite voice actor takes centre stage and this time it’s a princely character… even better! ヽ(*´ー`*)ノ I’ll have to make a list of character fetishes that I have… well, I better get started then, because this is going to be one hell of a long list!

Make me proud Mamoru-san!

First Impressions

This series is going to be laugh out loud funny. I’ve read the manga and I can tell this is going to be a good series! I found myself singing to the theme song in no time xD

The Host Club is now open!

Midway Impressions

Oh my days! Somebody call me a doctor, I think I’ve got something wrong with my laugh box xD I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much! The hilarity of all of the Host Club’s antics… it’s just too much for my stomach to handle.

The twins are mischievous and evil! They’re so in sync! And Honey is KAWAII! Him and Mori are really adorable together which reminds me of another pair of boys from another series… yes, I’m on about Momiji and Hatsuharu from Fruits Basket \(^o^)/ speaking of Mori, he’s a dark horse. He’s so quiet and that’s good, him and Kyouya keep everything balanced in the host club since the twins and Tamaki are so outrageous. Even I can’t keep up with their antics, I wonder how Mori copes!

Kyouya is the Shadow King O_O he scared me a lot. He’s still a smart (and hot) megane – can I borrow your brains? I can pass all my exams then!

This is good entertainment, absolute genius!

Everything is solved with CAKE! xD

Overall Opinion

Ouran High School Host Club was too hilarious! My parents must have thought I was mad since all they could hear was me laughing my head off in my bedroom xD

The animation was good and the plot was nearly the same as the manga which really pleased me! This series didn’t give off a serious tone which is great for a romantic comedy, even the most serious matters turn out to be funny which is what I liked about OHSHC. The backgrounds were elegant and graceful which was perfect for OHSHC since it’s set in a prestigious school. Oh and the blooming roses that appeared in nearly every single scene? That made me think about the amount of roses they used xD overuse of roses! Seriously, the animators did a wonderful job to find a keen balance between common/plain and glorious so that when a touching moment is needed, the characters have the necessary and correct animation whilst during the hyper-active moments, the characters are bouncy and have a jelly-like movement, normally enhanced with deformed and chibi characters . What caught my attention though was how detailed the backgrounds and settings were. If you pay attention, it’s very noticeable how much effort the animators put into the locations

Each and every character in the Host Club are based on typical stereotypes of bishounen: Tamaki the prince type, Kyoya the cool type, Hikaru and Kaoru the little-devil type, Honey the loli-shota type and Mori the strong, quiet type. The characters were amazing and I loved how they know they’re in an anime, they were breaking the fourth wall \(^o^)/ it’s a rare technique used by mangakas and animators so I was glad that they brought this in from the manga. The way the characters interacted with each other was really amusing especially the conversations between the twins and Tamaki! These three have the best conversations in the entire series I reckon. My favourite conversation between them is probably this from episode three:

Tamaki: “Haruhi and I are clearly necessary components of the love comedy!”

Twins: “Then what are we?”

Tamaki: “Why, the necessary homo-homo supporting cast of course!”

プッ(※థэథ)∵.*.∵

Obviously the show is mainly about Haruhi and Tamaki… they’re the main characters! But its’s good to see the development of the supporting cast too especially Hikaru and Kaoru so I’m not complaining. The twins’ world used to revolve around them but ever since Haruhi became a part of the Host Club, their world is slowly expanding. The voice actors really suited the characters too so it helped in their development!

There was one episode where Haruhi and Hikaru go on a date together and Haru-chan had to look so cute in the dress that Kaoru chose her. Good job Kaoru \(^o^)/ Haruhi was so adorable that even I wanted to go on a date with her! xD

Haruhi was a good lead character! I loved how she was really blunt with her words towards Tamaki and she’s not your typical dim shoujo girl. Oh come on Haru-chan, Tamaki needs the love!
If not, I’ll give my love to him instead!

Bless Tamaki, he was so freaking adorkable! The many noises of Tamaki Suoh throughout the series made me LOL. I was in love with him before I knew it and besides, I have a thing for princely characters *・゜゚・*:.。..。.:*・'(*゚▽゚*)’・*:.。. .。.:*・゜゚・*

Ah, my prince! I’ll gladly accept that rose (๑´ლ`๑)

You chose the right person to play Tamaki! Thankyou Mamoru-san ❤

Now, I would go rambling on about the ending but I won’t since I could go on and on!

OHSHC is a must for those who love a romantic comedy! I recommend it to everyone!
